Finding people to play with

By the end of this page you'll have a list of realistic places to find an opponent, wherever you're starting from.

Not having anyone to play with is one of the biggest things that stops people starting this hobby. Here are the realistic starting points, roughly in the order I'd try them.

Your local independent game store

Most towns with a game store that sells Warhammer products run some kind of regular hobby night or beginner table. Staff are usually happy to help pair up new players — it's worth a phone call or a visit to ask, even if you haven't bought anything there yet.

Warhammer clubs

Independent hobby clubs (not run by Games Workshop) exist in a lot of areas, often meeting weekly or monthly in a community hall or similar space. A search for "[your town] Warhammer club" or "[your town] wargaming club" is a good starting point.

Games Workshop stores

Official Games Workshop stores often run beginner-friendly sessions and can point you toward players in your area, even if you build and paint at home rather than in-store.

Warhammer+ and official digital resources

Games Workshop's Warhammer+ subscription includes learn-to-play content that's worth watching alongside this site, particularly if you're a visual learner.

Online communities

Forums, subreddits and Discord servers dedicated to Age of Sigmar and wargaming in general are good places to ask questions and sometimes find local players, even if you never play them directly online.
