Zero to Spearhead

Who's writing this

About

I'm not a veteran hobbyist. I'm someone who just started, writing down everything as I figure it out.

My first painted Reclusian: bright orange armour, a blue cloak and a big axe, on a white base.
My first painted Reclusian. Very orange, on purpose now.

I started Zero to Spearhead because I wanted to get into Warhammer Age of Sigmar and couldn't find anywhere written for someone who genuinely knew nothing. Most hobby content online is written by people who've been doing this for years, for an audience who already speaks the shorthand. I don't, and a lot of beginners don't either.

I bought a starter set, built it and played it, then kept going: more armies (some second-hand and already painted), my first standalone kits, and now a 1,000-point army. I write down what actually happened at each step, including the parts I got wrong. Every guide on this site is written from that position: "here's what worked for me," not "here's the definitive way to do it."

Why Spearhead specifically

Spearhead is Games Workshop's small, pre-built-army, fast-to-learn format — which makes it a much easier place to start than the full-size game. Fewer models, simpler rules, and a lower cost of entry. If you're nervous about cost, doing it wrong, or not understanding the rules, this format (and this site) is aimed squarely at you.

Where this goes next

Spearhead is the starting point, not the finish line. That next step is under way: I'm growing my army into a 1,000-point army for full-size Age of Sigmar, and writing it up the same way: what I bought, what changed in the rules, and what I got wrong. Guides are marked Spearhead, 1,000 Points or Universal so you can tell at a glance which game size they're about.

What this site is not

It's not written by an expert, and it doesn't claim to be the single correct way to play or paint. It's also not an official Games Workshop resource — see the note below.
